Hartford HealthCare Rehabilitation Network (HHCRN) offers a specialized neurological program, which includes Myomo™ therapy.
This service is offered to stroke survivors with upper extremity loss of function to promote neuroplasticity.
Program Description
- Individualized treatment program featuring bilateral tasks, enriched environment and targeted reaching.
- Task oriented/functional exercises performed while wearing the device.
- Integrates into patient’s existing therapy framework.
- Treatment program is generally 2-3 visits per week for 6-8 weeks.
The Myomo™ (“My Own Motion”) E100 was developed by a team from the MA Institute of Technology. The non-invasive neurorobotic device:
- Engages the patient in self-directed therapy.
- Uses assistance that is controlled by the patient’s EMG signal.
- Produces accurate precise movement.
- It's portable and lightweight.
- Supports goal-oriented therapy integrates into existing therapy frameworks.
Who to Refer
Patients experiencing limited mobility and/or severe weakness in the upper extremity may be candidates for Myomo™ therapy. Patients must have “trace” muscle contractions to enable patient-initiated and controlled movements of hemiparetic limbs. Improved mobility has been shown in patients 4 weeks to 21 years post-stroke.
