Therapy Options
Bone-conduction Hearing Devices (such as Baha)
The Baha device is a surgically implanted titanium fixture behind the ear that works by directly stimulating the inner ear through the bone. A Baha is used to improve hearing in patients with chronic ear infections, congenital external auditory canal atresia (when the ear canal does not develop) or in patients with one-sided deafness who receive no benefit from conventional hearing aids.
Cochlear Implant
The cochlear implant is an electronic device that is inserted into the hearing part of the inner ear (called the cochlea) under general anesthesia as outpatient surgery. It is designed to produce useful hearing by electrically stimulating nerves inside the inner ear. Cochlear implants are meant to help severely to profoundly deaf adults and children who get little to no benefit from hearing aids.
Surgery of the ear and lateral skull base is available as well as:
- Tympanoplasty
- Tympanomastoidectomy
- Stapedectomy
- Acoustic Neuroma Removal
- Glomus Tumor Removal
Our patient-centered approach and ability to access the resources of Hartford Hospital Rehabilitation Network, Connecticut Ear, Nose, & Throat Associates, and Hartford Hospital neurologists and neurosurgeons enable us to provide the most innovative and advanced care for hearing and balance issues.
